A CONFERENCE has been held discussing some of the world’s most mundane subjects.
The annual Boring Conference took place yesterday, aiming to leave its sell-out audience “slightly underwhelmed” as they took their seats in the London’s Conway Hall.
Advertised as “a one-day celebration of the mundane, ordinary…subjects often considered trivial and pointless”, former speakers have included film-maker Adam Curtis and author Jon Ronson, as well as scientists, creatives, artists and architecture experts.
Now in its eighth year, the event started as an alternative to the Interesting Conference, which was cancelled in 2010.
Topics being discussed this year included toilet roll, call centres, unbranded cars and wall stains.
Professor Sophie Scott, a researcher at University College London, also gave a presentation on the Watergate Tapes including parts which have been previously unheard.
Conference founder James Ward said: “Any boring subject can be exciting if you have energy and enthusiasm.”
He added that the conference topics aim to “reveal something bigger than the subject itself and discover another way of looking at the subject or even the world.”
