THERE’S always one team that becomes a thorn in the side of the Premier League club you support.

New research into the English top flight’s bogey teams has revealed that Arsenal are the most common one and that Watford, Huddersfield and Bournemouth might be the biggest hurdle to footballing glory.

The analysis by MyBonusCode.co.uk looks at every game ever played in all competitions between the current crop of top flight teams, to reveal definitively each club’s bogey side.

Seven out of Arsenal’s nineteen Premier League opponents have their highest loss rates against the Gunners.

In second place are Manchester United, and a surprising third are Huddersfield Town.

Manchester United are the only team with no discernible bogey team. While they have their highest loss rate of 36% against Arsenal, they’ve also beaten the Gunners more than any other team currently in the Premier League, coming away victorious on 96 of their 225 meetings.

The findings also revealed that:

  • Watford are the bogey team of Arsenal in terms of win/loss percentages
  • Huddersfield Town are the team Liverpool have their worst loss percentage against
  • Current champions Chelsea have lost 43% of their games against Liverpool
  • Manchester City have lost 50% of their games against Arsenal, including 22 of the last 40

Out of the Premier League clubs, it’s Bournemouth who have had the worst time of it against their bogey team. The Cherries have lost 83% of their meetings with Arsenal, the highest loss rate against another side in the Premier League.

Everton have the highest total number of losses (117) by any Premier League side against an opponent. In a further twist of the knife for Toffees fans, this reflects matches against bitter rivals Liverpool.
