ONE of the Beano’s longest-running characters celebrates his 65th birthday today.
The first comic strip featuring Roger the Dodger, who certainly doesn’t look his age, was published on April 18 1953.
Happy birthday to the original dodger!
Illustrated by Ken Reid, Roger first appeared in the Beano on 18th April 1953. To help celebrate his 65th birthday, we've dug out his first ever story!
First illustrated by Ken Reid, Roger’s appearance hasn’t changed all that much despite being drawn by several different artists over the years.
After the first black and white strips, Roger’s famous checkered shirt would become the same red and black colours as fellow Beano favourites Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx.
Famed for wangling his way out of doing any boring task, Roger’s adventures have delighted readers for years.
