Amy Daly takes us inside her gorgeous three-bedroom Edinburgh townhouse, located in the popular northwest suburb of Davidson’s Mains, which she shares with her husband Blair and children Savannah and India. She also explains why, despite the love they have poured into its stunning interiors, the couple have recently placed their home on the market.
Our home is more than 200 years old and was converted from two flats into one townhouse by the previous owner. The downstairs living area is very modern and has a great layout with alcoves and skylights.
We bought our home in 2019 and I had our youngest daughter a few weeks after we moved in so it will be a massive wrench to leave it and reluctantly we have put it on the market. Our children come first, though. They want to attend the same school as their friends so we’re moving to be in the right catchment area.
The townhouse was immaculate when we moved in but we’ve put our own stamp on it over time. In our room, we added a bespoke wardrobe and painted the walls with Farrow & Ball “Off Black”, which is a great contrast with the lighter furniture, white bay window and skirting boards.
I don’t follow one style in particular but like a mix of trends. I’m a bit of a magpie and naturally drawn to shiny things, like our gold fire guard. I do sometimes wonder if a piece is a little over the top, but with the walls being a blank canvas and the sophisticated style of the building, some bold pieces were needed.
I always take my lead from Farrow & Ball as they pick the best tones of colours. I get a lot of home accessories from H&M Home online and Viano Interiors in Glasgow. Our furniture is a mix from over the years. Our bed is from Made, a brand I really miss! India’s boucle rainbow bed frame was from Next, our sofas are John Lewis and the large black sideboard is from Dwell.
Upstairs, two of our three large bedrooms have beautiful cornice detail. The master is the old living room from the previous flat.
Our top-floor bedroom is super cosy and has a sleek black staircase leading to it. We also turned a section of the upstairs hall into a study area which acts like an extra room. Overall, we have a great balance between modern and traditional living.
Our most recent project was the downstairs bathroom. We invested in brass Lusso Stone pieces, a marble sink and micro cement ceiling, floor and walls which made it so luxurious. I love so many things about our home and will miss the open plan living and brightness in the kitchen, opening the bifold doors in the summer and that real feeling of indoor/outdoor living.
My best interior design advice is to take the time to make a space feel unified. I often move ornaments and furniture around to make a space feel new and exciting again, without spending more money.
Amy’s home is for sale with Warners via ESPC for offers over £445,000 and can be viewed online at espc.com here.
