Face masks have become part of our everyday lives, and look set to be a long-term fixture, which means that with half of our faces covered up, the focus is very much on our eyes.
But with so much more attention on this facial feature than ever before, it leaves our eyes open to self-scrutiny. Perhaps we’re noticing more lines, or all we can see are puffy under-eye bags making us look more tired and older than we are? Well, help is at hand.
Aesthetic nurse Helen Green from Transform Hospital Group gives us the lowdown on the treatments that can make the most of our eyes.
“It’s not about changing the way people look – it’s about making subtle enhancements,” said Helen.
“This is an important ethos which we extend to our patients, and it’s part of our discussions with them so that they can be sure that they’re undergoing treatment for the right reasons.”
Goodbye tired eyes
Injections which help smooth the skin around the eye can help them appear brighter and look more youthful. They are a great way to plump skin and fill deep lines.
“They can be used on parts of the face that have lost volume due to the ageing process such as the tear trough (the crease between the lower eyelid and upper cheek), between the eyebrows (anti-wrinkle injections work best for this area) or near the temples,” Helen explained.
Get rid of bags
Blepharoplasty (eye bag removal) is a surgical procedure to remove bags from under the eye or excess skin from the upper eyelids.
Helen said: “As we age the muscles around the eyes relax and the skin surrounding them loses elasticity which is when eye bags form.
“Aside from ageing, the puffiness around your eyes could also be caused by external lifestyle factors such as poor sleep and diet.
“So if you have tried getting more sleep and exercise and reducing your salt intake, or if makeup just can’t seem to hide those bags anymore and it’s really getting you down, this could be an option to explore.”
Help lift the eyes
Thread lifts could reduce the appearance of wrinkles and shape the eye area.
“It’s a quick and simple procedure which involves Polydioxanone threads via a thin tube beneath the skin attaching the threads to surrounding tissue. These anchor the tissue to lift the face. This type of treatment really helps to tighten the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin production which helps to restore the plumpness of the skin,” Helen added.
