Beauty Boss: Fingers lookin’ good! On-trend tips for a marvellous manicure

Mix and match nail colours are set to be a top trend in 2022.

Whether you opt for classic French tips or prefer to add a pop of colour, treating yourself to a fresh manicure is the perfect combination of self-care and style. But with so many options to choose from – including shape, length and shade – it can be hard to put your finger on what trend works for you.

Here, nail expert Lynn Mason, from Swiss brand Mavala, shares five catwalk-worthy looks that are perfect for 2022.

Modern mani

No one does effortless chic quite like the French, and their signature manicure is no different. However, the classic white tips have had an epic upgrade.

Mason explained: “The subtle pink base with white tip will still be ubiquitous, but we’ll also see much bolder and brighter, reimagined takes on the look. I expect to see brave black tips, as well as metallic shades for a stand-out look, or a simple clear base with mismatched colours.

“Mixing textures can be fun as well, so experiment with a matte colour base and glossy tips. The new French mani lets people express their creativity while still maintaining a paired-back aesthetic.”

Mix and match

If you are a little indecisive, more is more this season.

“Set to be one of the top trends of 2022, having mismatched nails is a great way to use a rainbow of colours from your nail polish collection,” continued Mason.

“While a subtle ombre move through similar tones will remain popular, this is a trend that can be as playful as you like and the possibilities are endless! Try contrasting colours, mix up your metallics or choose five of your favourite mood-boosting colours.”

Show your metal

At the end of last year, chrome and glitter was all the rage. Now, it’s time to add a more metallic finish for on-trend talons. Mason said: “It’s a playful trend with a nod to the ’90s cyber goth look.

“You can play with the finish by choosing a super high shine or opt for a modern matte.”

Au naturale

Mason added: “For the shape, 2021 trends leaned more towards long nails. However, we expect this shift back to a more natural and shorter shape this year, which is not only more practical but hygienic, too.

“Combine with nudes and neutrals, or warm beiges, and you’ll have a minimalist but on-trend look.”

Pretty in pink

Mason said: “Pastels have always been popular for Spring, so we can expect brighter hues that pop on the nails – think Easter eggs!”
