As we get older, it’s normal for hair to thin and lose its bounce – but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for lacklustre locks.
Here, hairdresser Jennifer Fox, who specialises in anti-aging treatments, shares her advice on getting your tresses in tip-top condition.
Hormones and hair loss
According to Jennifer, hormone changes in later life can cause everything from shedding and slow growth, to dryness and coarse strands.
She explained: “For many of us, the first signs of ageing show in our hair, including graying, dryness, and even colour fade.
“Hair changes with age, just like the rest of your body, although at a slightly more rapid speed – up to 12 times faster than your skin.
“And, according to expert dermatologists, hair follicles get smaller and sebum production declines as we age, with some people losing pigment cells which causes the hair to go grey or white.”
Cause for conern
Although every woman is different, Jennifer admits hair loss is a big concern for most women as they get older or reach the menopause.
“Concerns vary from person to person, but I would say loss of hair density and volume are at the top for most women, closely followed by breakage and split ends, lack of moisture, frizz, and dryness.”
Treat and tame
Jennifer said: “If thinning is the primary concern, I would recommend using an intense repair system, which consists of a shampoo and leave-in treatment to penetrate and nurture the scalp while boosting natural hair growth and improving follicle strength.
“You can also use Rejuveniqe’s Oil Intensive treatment as a weekly application, either at home or in salon.
“The oil nourishes and energises the scalp with an invigorating combination of 14 natural oils rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and the formula prevents oxidative stress, adding body to the hair, helping to repair and give visible, long-lasting shine without the build-up effects of silicone.”
Limp to luxe
“There are a few key ingredients we can use to improve limp or lacklustre hair,” said Jennifer.
“Capixyl helps to protect the scalp, strengthen and thicken hair while supporting natural growth, Procataline promotes healthy levels of antioxidants in hair follicles to combat premature thinning, and Crodasorb absorbs UV rays to protect hair from sun damage.”
