Storm Bella swept across Scotland yesterday as drivers were warned of ice and treacherous conditions.
The cold snap is expected to continue into Hogmanay, with temperatures as low as -6 tomorrow.
High winds of up to 50mph are expected throughout the day, with some ferry services facing cancellation until Tuesday.
Greg Dewhurst of the Met Office said: “This cold spell will be with us for the next three to five days.
“There is no sign of anything milder coming through until the first week of January.
“Higher ground is more likely to see the heaviest snow but there could be falls to lower levels as well.”
No sooner had Storm Bella blown through last night than the Met Office issued multiple warnings across the country.
Forecasters warn that snow and ice will result in difficult driving conditions until at least 3pm today.
Areas affected include Central, Tayside and Fife, Grampian, Highlands and Islands, south west Scotland, Lothian and Borders and Strathclyde.
Then, after just three hours’ respite, many of those affected areas will fall under yet another Met Office warning for snow and ice, lasting until 10am tomorrow.
