Play was stopped momentarily as referee Willie Collum retrieved the missile, which looked to have been thrown by home fans in the East Stand. The match commander at Easter Road was informed of the incident. After James Forrest opened the scoring minutes later, a flare was also thrown onto the pitch, this time from away fans in the South Stand. Celtic won the cup tie 2-0, progressing to the semi-finals of the competition.
