A COURAGEOUS schoolgirl has been given the devastating news that her cancer has returned – just days after she had finished treatment.
Champion dancer Lily Douglas, 10, had 118 gruelling chemotherapy sessions and had surgery to remove a shoulder blade after being diagnosed with stage four Ewing’s sarcoma last year.
But doctors discovered that the cancer has returned in her lungs and is “really aggressive”.
A fundraising appeal has now been launched to pay for Lily to enjoy the “holiday of a lifetime” in Florida, with a £5,000 goal.
Lily’s mum Jane Douglas, of Perth, wrote on Facebook: “I am devastated to tell you all that my sweet beautiful baby girl’s cancer has returned to both her lungs.
“We have a choice to still go to Florida in two weeks’ time or start a new chemo treatment a week on Monday.
“She suggested we go and make memories and loads of them.
“My heart is in pieces but my brave girl will start chemo again the day we get home from America.
“We need to make this the best holiday in the world.”
Lily will have scans next week to establish whether the cancer has spread further.
Well-wishers donated thousands of pounds hours after an appeal opened at gofundme.com/little-lilly-holiday-of-a-lifetime
