Cairngorm Mountain Resort has welcomed Susan Smith as its new CEO after a two year spell running the business on secondment.
The winter season is scheduled to get under way on Friday December 17, but the opening day may come earlier if conditions are suitable.
A £16 million funicular repair project started in the spring, with the aim of getting the mountain train running again in time for this year’s winter sports season.
However the pandemic as well as recent storms have pushed back the reopening, which is now planned for the second half of next year.
A £780,000 makeover of the ski centre’s Ptarmigan restaurant is also under way.
Smith said: “Although the resort faces some challenges with the potential threat of retreating snow cover, we have seen a huge increase in traffic throughout the pandemic, as people choose to holiday here instead of heading abroad.
“The funicular will operate in the autumn next year and we plan to scale up business to accommodate that with 25 new staff to run it.
“Cairngorm mountain remains a mountain for all and in particular the local community – if we continue to be successful then the community is successful as a result.”
