This can take two different forms.
“Presented by”
This means the content has been paid for and produced by the named advertiser.
“In partnership with”
This means the content has been paid for and approved by the named advertiser but written and edited by our own commercial content team.
Part of the magic of Christmas is the idea that you can help those less-fortunate than you. The festive season is upon us all and it’s time to give back.
If you are looking to give a charity Christmas gifts this year but are feeling a little stuck, look no further. Here are some fantastic charities that you can donate to.
Are you ready to make a real difference this festive season?
The MoonWalk Scotland
More than ever this Christmas, thousands of people in Scotland living with cancer are in need of emotional and physical support.
Many have had their diagnosis and treatment delayed because of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis is also having a devastating effect.
Cancer charity Walk the Walk is the organiser of The MoonWalk Scotland. Thanks to money raised by this iconic night-time event, Walk the Walk makes grants to other organisations and charities across the country, who support people living with cancer. Previous grants have helped fund the vital work of charities like Maggie’s and Cancer Support Scotland.
Make a difference and sign up for The MoonWalk Scotland on Saturday 9th September 2023. Women and men aged 13 and over can walk a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) or Full Marathon (26.2 miles) overnight through the streets of Edinburgh – the choice is yours!
Since 2006, The MoonWalk Scotland has raised an incredible £21.5 million, but the need to support those with cancer is now greater than ever. To sign up for The MoonWalk or make a donation go to the Walk the Walk website. Every mile you walk and every penny you raise will help those living with cancer.
Down’s Syndrome Scotland
“No-one can really explain what changes in your life once you have a person with Down’s syndrome in your family, but really, it’s like living life in technicolour on some super-exciting roller coaster journey that you didn’t realise you wanted to be on”. Katy (Mum of Matilda) says.
As with all journeys though, children and adults with Down’s syndrome experience emotional highs and lows too!
Last year, 996 families called our National Helpline worried about the people in their lives with Down’s syndrome – our Family Support Service team provide practical, financial and emotional support for people with Down’s syndrome, and help family members worried about the emotional health of their sibling, son, daughter or grandchild, due to loneliness or exclusion.
Every pound you donate will help our committed Family Support Service team connect with every person with Down’s syndrome in Scotland who need us. Please help us make a positive impact on our community by giving a gift of a donation today. Please Donate Now.
Men Matter Scotland
Men Matter Scotland (“MMS”) exists to promote wellbeing and prevent suicide in men. We do this by supporting men’s mental health, improving men’s quality of life, expanding men’s connections and creating an environment that promotes possibility and wellbeing, improve mental health and quality of life for men and expand and enrich men’s connections. This is implemented through a variety of activities that promote positive health and wellbeing for men, physically and emotionally.
Their hub is a safe space for men from age 16 upwards. In this space the charity offers a range of experiences and training, including, ASIST suicide prevention training and peer to peer support. This room also gets used for classes during the day to help the guys move forward in their journey.
MMS is a relatively new charity, founded in 2019, that has grown exponentially due to unprecedented need and demand. Whilst delivering its positive “peer-to-peer” support services, our membership has grown by 300% in the last eighteen months to approximately one thousand five hundred members.
There is an urgent need to respond to an increasing demand on this unique service. MMS are working hard to build capacity on our operating model in order to deal with the huge rise in numbers that our referred to us.
Exacerbated by Covid, there is an increased pressure on MMS to triage and support vulnerable men. To do this, Men Matter Scotland needs all the help they can get.
ENABLE
At ENABLE Scotland, members are at the very heart of everything the charity does. They know that life can be different if you have a learning disability. Children are more likely to be bullied and unable to take part in playground games. Only 30% of adults with a learning disability can name a close friend and sadly people with learning disabilities die, on average, 20 years younger.
Led by the needs of members, the charity are working tirelessly to address these inequities. They rely on the generosity of donors to be there for families and individuals across Scotland, wherever and whenever support is needed.
Your support this Christmas could help make the difference to thousands of young people and adults, who rely on ENABLE services every day of the year.
ENABLE Scotland member, Andrew, says: “ENABLE has made a tremendous difference in my life. I feel more confident, like I can speak up for myself and I have more friends.”
ENABLE Scotland’s life-changing work is happening in YOUR community every day, often unseen and unspoken. They are there for members throughout community groups where lifelong friendships are made; by supporting parents and their children to access and attend school; by providing accessible life-skills training (like money management and independent travel); and by educating and supporting people to look after their physical and mental health, for healthier and happier lives.
Your contribution will have a direct impact on the lives of ENABLE members. Please visit the ENABLE website now to find out more about the charity, consider making a one-off donation or choose to support the group on a regular basis by playing their lottery or setting up a small direct debit. Your donation to ENABLE Scotland can make a difference. Christmas charity gift giving is incredibly rewarding.
Patch
PATCH (Palliation and the Caring Hospital) was inspired by the model of care developed in the Acute Palliative Care Unit in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee which was started by a charitable donation and is now funded by the NHS.
PATCH is the first charity dedicated to providing the stimulus, funding and experience to support hospital specialist palliative care services and units in Scotland, and support education and training of specialist palliative care nursing staff.
Over the past five years PATCH has increasingly been investing across Scotland in the development of the knowledge and skills of nursing staff from a variety of clinical areas to enable them to deliver quality palliative and end of life care. To date 80 nurses have participated in PATCH-specific courses or receive support for completing undergraduate specialisms in palliative care. This crucial work is much needed to offer better training for nurses and allow them to support patients and their families at the most challenging times.
The fundraising efforts of PATCH go towards supporting the education and training of remarkable nursing staff across Scotland so they can enhance their own knowledge and continue to provide the very best care. To make a donation, visit the PATCH website.
