THERESA MAY’S General Election manifesto says a second independence referendum will not take place under a Conservative UK government until the ‘Brexit process has played out’.
The Tory manifesto, launched today, repeats the view of the Prime Minister that ‘now is not the time’ for another vote on Scotland’s independence.
It says: “In order for a referendum to be fair, legal and decisive, it cannot take place until the Brexit process has played out and it should not take place unless there is public consent for it to happen.
“This is a time to pull together, not apart.”
May earlier this year rejected a formal request from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for a second vote in late 2018 or early 2019.
