I’VE spent most of the week glued to my telly watching Wimbledon.
I’m a huge fan but it’s one of the things that makes me feel a wee bit homesick.
In my younger days I used to play a bit, although I wasn’t much good. In fact, my nickname was Lionel Richie – because I was always at endless love.
Although I used to have more court appearances than Judge Rinder, I don’t play as much these days.
A few years ago I got to play on the courts at Wimbledon with my old pal, the lovely Sue Barker.
After well and truly having my backside handed to me by Sue, I retired to the changing rooms.
When I was there a butler asked: “Would you like me to run you a bath, sir?”
No kidding, just a wee bit different to what I was used to at Anniesland Bowling and Tennis Club!
While Brits are looking out the strawberries and cream and Pimm’s, our pals here in the USA are breaking out the fireworks and barbecues.
It was Independence Day – when the Americans celebrate Will Smith fighting off that alien invasion or something.
But it was an important date for another reason. My big sister Elaine celebrated her birthday.
It’s amazing when you’re in showbiz how, over the years, my wee sister has now become my big sister!
I met another big personality last week – DJ Khaled. He’s one of the coolest names in music at the moment having worked with Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West and John Legend.
Mr Khaled – or DJ to his mates – is huge on social media and has a new album out called Grateful. He also had a No 1 in the UK with I’m The One, featuring Justin Bieber.
I got to go to big Khaled’s mansion and was told in no uncertain terms NOT to mention where it was.
When I arrived I realised I’d been there before – at Robbie Williams’ wedding!
The former Take That man used to own that particular mansion.
“I bought this house from Robbie Williams, I love this house,” he laughed. “It’s been a dream of mine to have estates and mansions and I love it. I love it because you can have anything you want. Stay out of trouble, stay focused, work hard and show love. Bless up!”
Amazingly that’s the same advice I was given by my Careers Guidance teacher at school!
