IT’S almost the weekend again, and that means it’s nearly time for Strictly!
Last week, The Saturdays star Mollie King went head to head with chef Simon Rimmer in the dance-off with the judges choosing to save the pop star from leaving the show.
Week seven sees the couples show off their moves to a mix of songs from the past and recent chart hits.
There’ll be ten different genres of dance.
- Alexandra and Gorka will Cha Cha to I Got The Music In Me by Marcia Hines
- Debbie and Giovanni dance the Tango to I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas
- Gemma and Aljaz Salsa to Sun Comes Up by Rudimental ft. James Arthur
- Mollie and AJ perform the Foxtrot to Call Me Irresponsible by Connie Francis
- Ruth and Anton dance the Paso Doble to The Shady Dame From Seville by Julie Andrews
- Susan and Kevin Jive to The Ole House by Shakin’ Stevens
- Aston and Janette perform the Viennese Waltz to Who’s Loving You by The Jackson 5
- Davood and Nadiya will dance the American Smooth to This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole
- Joe and Katya perform the Charleston to Alexander’s Ragtime Band by Ella Fitzgerald
- Jonnie and Oti will Salsa to Turn Me On by Kevin Lyttle
Predictions for the overall winner
Research into 13 years of the show indicates that singer Aston Merrygold and dance partner Jannette Manara are statistically the most likely to win this year’s trophy.
The study by BonusCodeBets.co.uk looked at the performances and characteristics of the winning celebrities across all 14 series of the show and found that statistically the winning couple is led by a male celebrity, aged 30.
Alexandra famously beat Aston in the 2008 X Factor final and the North London lass has seen her chances of taking the trophy increase after she was coupled with dancer Gorka Márquez, 27, meaning that her coupling gives her a great chance of topping the leadership board.
Meanwhile actress and former glamour model Gemma Atkinson and her handsome hunk Aljaž Škorjanec are also in position to top the leader board thanks to their ages, 32 and 27 respectively.
The research from found that when it comes to professions, TV presenters perform best meaning that Charlotte Hawkins and comedian-cum-host Susan Calman, both aged 42, are in good place to perform well in the series. Comedians, radio presenters and politicians (like last year’s fan-favourite Ed Balls) are amongst the careers to never to have won the Strictly crown.
On the sporting side of things, the contest between football and rugby stars has always been fierce. Rugby players average a finishing position of two places higher than footballers and they also average three more points per dance. In the field of sport, previous show winners have included cricketers Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash and Olympian gymnast Louis Smith.
