SCOTS fans of Hollywood superstars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham could get the chance to spot them filming scenes for their latest movie.
It was announced earlier this month that the megastars would be heading to Glasgow to film parts of Universal Pictures’ Fast and Furious spin off, featuring their characters Hobbs and Shaw.
Now, the list of city centre streets that will be closed to accommodate filming crews has been revealed, as well as when the production will be in the city.
Filming will begin on Wednesday October 24, and will continue for the rest of that week.
Dates and Locations
Wednesday, October 24: John Street, George Street, Cochrane Street and Ingram Street,
Thursday, October 25: John Street, George Street, Cochrane Street and Ingram Street,
Friday, October 26: Junction of South Frederick Street, George Square and Cochrane Street,
Saturday, October 27: Under the M8 and footbridge,
Sunday, October 28: From Montrose Street to West Campbell Street.
Hobbs and Shaw, which will also star Vanessa Kirby, Idris Elba and Eddie Marsan, isn’t the first film in The Fast and the Furious franchise to feature Scotland’s largest city.
Parts of Fast & Furious 6 were shot in Glasgow, with the summer of 2012 seeing supercars racing along the Broomielaw and other city centre streets.
In other blockbusters, Glasgow doubled for Philadelphia in Brad Pitt zombie epic World War Z back in 2011, and several other productions including Under The Skin, Cloud Atlas and Patrick Melrose featured scenes shot in the city.
Glasgow council depute leader David McDonald said: “We will soon welcome this film shoot to the city centre, testament to the continued pulling power of Glasgow in attracting major productions.
“Council officers are working closely with the production to make sure that filming goes as smoothly as possible while minimising any impact on the daily life of residents and businesses.
“This will be a spectacular production that showcases Glasgow as a fantastic filming location.”
