Detectives are investigating a leak of confidential intelligence from the high-security Scottish Crime Campus.
The £75 million complex near Gartcosh is the HQ for Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division, which tackles organised crime and terrorism.
It is also a command base for specialist officers from the National Crime Agency, HM Revenue and Customs and Forensic Services.
Intelligence officers from Trading Standards Scotland (TSS) regularly visit the Lanarkshire facility to exchange information. Police Scotland said the force had received an allegation that information about a driving offence committed by a TSS investigator was leaked to his line manager, an intelligence officer. It is understood the officer did not have access to the Scottish Intelligence Database.
The investigator, who asked not to be named, made a complaint to Police Scotland’s professional standards department.
He claims he had already disclosed the driving offence to senior managers at TSS before his line manager learned of the matter during a visit to the Scottish Crime Campus.
However, he said the leak to his superior made his position untenable and he later left TSS.
He added: “The actions of someone at the Scottish Crime Campus caused significant distress and severe financial detriment.
“My line manager should not have been in a position to gain access to personal, sensitive information about me.”
Police Scotland confirmed a criminal probe had begun into a leak of intelligence from the campus.
The force said: “We have received a report in relation to this alleged incident and inquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesman for the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, which manages TSS, declined to comment.
