One of my New Year’s resolutions was to make more me time.
So that’s exactly what I’m doing today.
I’ve been to the gym, for a swim and sauna – and one of the most luxurious massages I’ve ever had.
I feel light as a feather… so all the more reason to head for a quick bite to weigh myself back down again!
I’m at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bellshill, a hotel with spa, and restaurant, The Space.
Decorated in muted green and browns, it’s homely, spacious and bright.
Aside from the clock-themed artwork on the walls, it’s so chilled that time seems to slip away and before I know it, I’ve managed to whittle a few hours away.
I’m greeted by a lovely waitress who shows me to the table and offers drinks and a menu.
They have Starbucks coffee on tap so I order myself a huge latte, as well as a panko chicken burger with fries on the side.
Every bite is delicious and, before I know it, I’ve cleared the plate – swimming certainly gives you an appetite.
The waitress hands me the dessert menu and at first I refuse, thinking I couldn’t fit anything else in. But then I spot the word “scone” and, of course, as the nation’s top spy of scones, it would be rude not to.
When the scone – or two mini ones to be precise – arrives, served on a plate with a pot of cream and jam on the side, I begin to think my eyes were bigger than my belly.
But they’re so light and fluffy that, before I can give it a second thought, I’m on to scone No. 2. Laced with whipped cream and raspberry preserve, they’re super scrumptious and go down an absolute treat.
Full as a puggy. I look at my watch and realise it’s time to go.
I might have done my exercise for the day, but I think a stroll beckons this afternoon to work off some of those calories.
It has to be said, time for yourself is lovely when you have the time to enjoy it – and with a scone on top, it’s even better!
Scone score
Small but perfectly formed. 8/10
