Edinburgh and Glasgow trains disrupted by Winchburgh landslip

A landslip has brought disruption to trains on the main line between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Mud and rocks have fallen on to the tracks at Winchburgh leading to replacement buses and cancellations to some services.

Scotrail said disruption is expected until the end of the day with trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh stopping at Linlithgow, with replacement buses between Linlithgow and Edinburgh.

The operator told passengers travelling between Edinburgh and Glasgow to use trains from Glasgow Queen Street low level and Glasgow Central.

Services between Edinburgh and Dunblane and Edinburgh and Stirling have also been affected.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf tweeted: “It should be noted that safety is the main issue here.

“Simply a matter that cannot and will not be compromised on. As the picture demonstrates landslips present a very real danger to our rail services.

“Plan will be to inform people before the evening peak of service disruptions.”

Heavy rain had earlier brought flooding to the line near Linlithgow, leading to disruption during the morning rush hour between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

A landslip at Kirkconnel in Dumfries and Galloway also led to cancellations between to trains between Glasgow and Carlisle and services in Ayrshire but engineers cleared the debris allowing trains to run.
