A FORMER police motorcycle used to chase criminals at 100 miles per hour through Edinburgh in the 1930s is expected to fetch up to £220,000 at auction this month.
The Brough Superior 981cc SS100 was one of two bought by cops in the capital in April 1931 to help tackle crime in the city.
At £180, it cost more than the average salary of the day, but gave the force a speedy advantage over offenders.
The motorcycle has been in a private collection for more than 50 years since leaving the police.
Bonhams’ Ben Walker said: “It did 100 miles per hour, so it would have been a very effective way of catching criminals, when the average family car would potter along at 30mph.”
