ONE of our favourite acts last year, Harry and Chris are back with another brilliant hour of highly enjoyable rhymes and punchlines.
In their latest Fringe show, the best friend duo mix a selection of newly penned ditties fresh for this year’s festival with some they’ve performed on Russell Howard’s TV show earlier in the year.
And this time… they’ve got costumes.
Harry (the poet) and Chris (the musician) reckon they’ve got comedy rap jazz superpowers, and showcase the reasons why that may be, and why that actually may not be the case as they try to save the world.
It’s a thoroughly enjoyable show packed with clever lyrics that’ll either leave you awestruck or make you groan – but in an endearing way – as the pair navigate subjects from trying to get a job in an ice cream parlour to the end of the world.
The charming duo even managed to make a Scottish crowd applaud their England World Cup song, which is quite a feat.
The highlight is a hilarious Beyoncé / Tellytubbies mashup which really does make you think that the kids’ TV show is looking so crazy right now.
There was room in the show for some improv, with Harry’s skills as a poet tested as the audience shouted out some of their favourite things for him to work into a song.
In this show, it spawned an impromptu flashback to a song written by Harry as a student and a subsequent singalong, as well as the duo becoming perplexed by what exactly scotch broth could be.
It was one of the various spontaneous moments that could throw the performers off kilter and into fits of laughter but they impressively channel the giggles into a force for good.
A bit like their comedy jazz rap superpowers.
Verdict: ★★★★
Another great hour from the immensely likeable duo with their trademark lyrical genius, catchy tunes and little touching moments that make this show a real treat.
