Edinburgh Fringe review: No wonder Llloyd Griffith is inundated with TV offers

Lloyd Griffith (Karla Gowlett)
Lloyd Griffith (Karla Gowlett)

PROFESSIONALLY, it’s been a great year for comedian, singer and football fan Lloyd Griffith.

Not only is his show In:Undated frequently selling out, but he’s also recently been unveiled as the new co-host of Soccer AM.

Once you settle into the crowd at the Pleasance however, you soon find out that his personal life hasn’t been quite so rosy.

Much of Lloyd’s material is based around the break-up of his two year relationship with an ex he dubs ‘Suzy for legal reasons.’

It’s a show based around heartache and what it means to be single guy in your thirties, attempting to get your head around dating apps.

Despite the sad subject matter, this is a warm, relatable and hilarious show. Lloyd bounces off the audience and has everyone laughing along with him on his journey through the grieving stages of ending a relationship and the daunting prospect of getting back into the dating game.

‘I’m really looking forward to coming back’: Comedian and Soccer AM host Lloyd Griffith on his stand up and bringing his tour to Scotland

Lloyd isn’t afraid to try a bit of audience participation, but don’t let that put you off picking out a seat in the front row. His patter is ridiculously friendly and all in good jest. One lucky punter even got serenaded (Lloyd’s voice is eye-poppingly good!)

Lloyd manages something rare in his show, in that he details the breakdown of a relationship without bitterness, resentment or casting blame on the other party. Despite a plethora of jokes about loneliness and comfort eating, this an hour of uplifting stand-up that’ll have you smiling for days.

Verdict

★★★

A big warm hug of a show. And stay tuned for his incredible singing voice!

You can catch Lloyd during the Fringe at the Pleasane Dome, 7pm, 23-27th August (not Friday)
