The Enough is Enough campaign to fight the cost of living crisis will launch in Scotland with a rally in Glasgow on Wednesday evening.
Backed by RMT general secretary Mick Lynch and Labour MP Zarah Sultana, as well as celebrities including MMA star Molly McCann, the organisation’s five key demands are a real pay rise, to slash energy bills, end food poverty, decent homes for all and to tax the rich.
Tonight at 7pm, the group will come to Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket with speakers including Scottish Trade Unions Congress general secretary Roz Foyer, Communication Workers Union general secretary Dave Ward, human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar as well as representatives from Living Rent and Power to the People Glasgow.
Founded by trade unions and community organisations, the group say they are determined to fight back against “misery forced on millions by rising bills, low wages, food poverty, shoddy housing – and a society run only for a wealthy elite.”
The group originally hoped to have 50,000 members join, however in just 24 hours after launching, over 100,000 had tried to sign up to the campaign, causing its website to temporarily crash.
Now with over 500,000 sign ups, the group hopes to reach one million members as it grows in popularity across the country.

50 rallies will take place across the UK, with protests also planned as the group urges people to turn “anger into action” and demand the Government do more to help people during the cost-of-living crisis.
The Enough is Enough website says: “Big business and the super-rich have never had it so good. Britain has a record number of billionaires and multinational corporations are making record profits. It’s time we finally made them pay their fair share.
“This can be done by introducing a wealth tax, raising taxes on corporate profits and on the top 5% of earners, closing tax dodging loopholes and abolishing non-dom status, increasing capital gains tax, and introducing new taxes on speculation.”
Their demands come as new Prime Minister Liz Truss made comments on the BBC that she believes it is “fair” that higher earners get more money back through tax cuts, and that there will be no windfall tax placed on energy companies who continue to announce billions in profits.
I’m backing @eiecampaign because we can’t wait until the desperate & poor are negated as human beings by the likes of @trussliz – Power rests with the people & it’s time we built a united movement to bring this inhumane & rancid Tory Government to its knees #EnoughlsEnough https://t.co/ak7dRh4t9w

The UK currently has more foodbanks than McDonald’s, according to Iceland boss Richard Walker, while at the same time the country has a record number of billionaires.
Human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar said on Twitter: “I’m backing the [Enough is Enough campaign] because we can’t wait until the desperate and poor are negated as human beings by the likes of [Liz Truss].
“Power rests with the people and it’s time we built a united movement to bring this inhumane and rancid Tory Government to its knees #EnoughlsEnough.”
The Enough is Enough campaign launch will be held at 7pm on Wednesday at the Old Fruitmarket, 100 Candlebriggs, Glasgow G1 1NQ.
