A BODY found in Strathcarron is thought to be that of missing hillwalker Stephen Mitchell.
Police say a member of the public made the discovery in the hills above Attadale yesterday.
While the body has not yet been formally identified, the family of Mr Mitchell, from Perthshire, has been informed.
The 57-year-old was reported missing in the area in February this year.
Sergeant Bryan Chalmers of Kyle of Lochalsh said: “Police Scotland would like to thank the tireless efforts of Torridon, other mountain rescue teams and all the partner agencies involved in this protracted search.
“Our thoughts are with Mr Mitchell’s family at this sad time.”
It’s been a tough winter for mountain rescue teams, with several walkers tragically losing their lives in the hills around Scotland.
Last week, the body of another hillwalker who vanished in the Strathcarron area was found after a long search.
Neil Gibson and brother Alan went missing in Achnashellach on February 8.
While Alan’s body was recovered a couple of days later, rescue teams finally managed to bring Neil home on March 26.
