ZINEDINE ZIDANE has announced his departure as head coach of Champions League winners Real Madrid.
As had been widely predicted by the Spanish press in the hour leading up to the press conference, Zidane revealed he had decided to resign from his role as head coach.
It comes just days after the former France international led his side to victory in the Champions League final.
Appearing alongside Real president Florentino Perez, World Cup winner Zidane said in a broadcast on Marca’s official Facebook page: “I have taken the decision to not continue going into the next season. For me and for everybody, I think the moment to change has arrived. It was not an easy decision.”
The quest to find a high-profile successor will now commence: Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and the Italian Maurizio Sarri, most recently of Napoli, have all been linked with the Bernabeu hotseat.
