Former Celtic and Dundee defender Darren O’Dea has joined Motherwell as their new under-18s coach.
The 32-year-old, who will combine the role with playing in the Lowland League for East Kilbride next season, said he was “delighted” to take his first steps into coaching.
He told the Steelmen’s website: “The club has proven its commitment over many years to progressing talented young players to first team football and I am looking forward to playing my part in helping bring through the next generation.”
The former Republic of Ireland international ended his playing time at relegated Dundee in May, having made over 300 club appearances in his career at the Dark Blues and beyond.
It wasn’t the farewell he had planned, however, picking up a red card after just 19 minutes of the clash with St Mirren.
O’Dea’s varied list of previous clubs includes Celtic, Reading, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Toronto FC, Metalurh Donetsk, Blackpool and Mumbai City.
Motherwell Academy Director Steven Hammell added: “We’re very happy to have brought in Darren to the club.”
“He is an eager and talented coach who impressed us greatly during the interview process.
“His vast experience in the game as a player, together with his ideas and passion for coaching, will be a valuable addition and help to our emerging players.”
