Sir Alex is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time, having won the Premier League 13 times.
He also masterminded a treble for United in the 1998/99 season.
He retired from management in 2013 but remains a director at the club.
His playing career included time at St Johnstone, Rangers, Dunfermline and Falkirk.
He also spent time at Queen’s Park and Ayr United.
Before he became a legend down south, Ferguson won three league titles, four Scottish Cups and the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup with Aberdeen.
He also spent a brief period in charge of the Scotland national team, leading them to the World Cup in the aftermath of the death of Jock Stein.
