From Lewis Capaldi to Still Game heroes: Oor Wullie statue signed by the stars sells for a dazzling £11,000 at Glasgow auction
From the stars of Still Game to Lewis Capaldi, the Celebrity Oor Wullie statue has had a brush with the high life this summer.
And last night, at the final instalment of Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail auctions, the statue, covered in a number of celebrity signatures, sold for an unbelievable £11,000.
Auctioned off at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Celebrity Oor Wullie joined a host of other statues inspired by famous faces including Oor Rod (Rod Stewart), Oor Ziggy (David Bowie) and Oor Billy (Billy Connolly).
The statue had been taken to Glasgow’s SEC Hydro over the summer months to greet a number of singers and celebrities, as well as visiting Kelvingrove Bandstand to be signed by more stars.
Last night’s auction saw an incredible £419,500 raised for Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital Charity, bringing the final total of Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail to £1,293,200.
200 specially created Oor Wullie statues were auctioned off this week in Dundee, Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh and Glasgow, after spending the summer on the streets of Scotland.
Dundee’s event at Dundee Rep saw £239,000 raised on Monday night, with funds raised going towards children’s hospital charity, Archie Tayside.
Aberdeen’s instalment took place at the Thainstone Centre in Inverurie on Tuesday, and raised an incredible £316,700 for Archie Grampian.
The penultimate auction at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh on Thursday night helped to bring the total close to £1m, raising £318,000 for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
