Scots hoping for fine Bank Holiday weekend weather were instead blasted by a tropical storm direct from America’s deep south.
Yesterday, severe gales lashed the country causing restrictions on road bridges and bringing down trees on electrified railway lines.
Flood warnings were issued for Argyll and Bute, Easter Ross, Findhorn, Nairn, Skye and Lochaber and Wester Ross.
CalMac cancelled sailings on the west coast and rail services on the south of Glasgow were halted after a tree was blown onto overhead lines.
The Forth Road Bridge was closed to double decker buses and the Tay Bridge was open only to cars and single deckers.
Friarton Bridge near Perth was shut to high sided vehicles.
The forecast is for winds to ease down significantly with patchy rain and sunnier spells in the east. But it will remain windy in the north and Western Isles tomorrow, while sunny in the east, with rain later in the west. On Tuesday, early rain will clear to give a dry day.
