GLASGOW Airport bomb hero John Smeaton has become a dad.
The “have-a-go” hero, nicknamed Smeato after shooting to fame for his part in helping to stop the failed Glasgow airport bombers, has a baby daughter.
The former airport baggage handler, who went to New York to make a new life for himself, told his Facebook followers yesterday: “I’m just back from hospital, baby Alannis Patricia Catherine Smeaton born tonight at 18.21.
“Never been so humbled in my life. Mother and baby doing fine.”
John, 41, from Erskine, Renfrewshire, shot to international fame after the 2007 attack when doctors Kafeel Ahmed and Bilal Abdullah tried to blow up Glasgow airport.
He had just gone outside to smoke a cigarette when the would-be bombers drove a flaming vehicle into the terminal building.
But the vehicle, packed with propane bottles, failed to explode.
Afterwards, John famously said: “This is Glasgow, we’ll set right aboot ye.”
The botched attempt left Ahmed dead and Abdullah serving 32 years in jail.
Smeaton he tired of being recognised and three years ago went to America.
His first marriage failed, but just over a year ago he met a new love and insists she stays anonymous.
