SINGER Greg Lake has died at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.
He was a vocalist and bassist for the band King Crimson before joining with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer to form Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
The band’s manager Stewart Young released a statement on Lake’s Twitter account saying: “Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer.
“Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he has always been. His family would be grateful for privacy during this time of their grief.”

Tributes have been paid from the world of music to Lake, who also had a solo hit with Christmas favourite I Believe in Father Christmas.
Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett said: “Music bows its head to acknowledge the passing of a great musician and singer, Greg Lake.”
Rick Wakeman tweeted: “Another sad loss with the passing of Greg Lake….You left some great music with us my friend & so like Keith , you will live on”
And Asia’s John Whetton wrote: ” I’m so sad to hear of the passing of a musical giant in my genre. Yesterday, my dear friend Greg Lake died from cancer. RIP.”
