It’s the sort of bah-humbug stunt beloved of The Grinch.
But residents of a leafy residential road in a Perthshire town are feeling a distinct lack of Christmas cheer after someone cut through the cables to several houses’ festive light displays.
The houses, in Doune Road and Montgomery Crescent, Dunblane, all have outdoor light displays that have been vandalised over the past few days.
Emma Law, whose snowflake projector light was cut, said. “It’s just a bit strange that someone would want to do that. I just don’t understand.
“I had a snowflake projector for the front of the house and then it stopped working. I went out to check it and thought that’s really strange. I was trying to unplug it and put it back in again and then I realised that the wire had been snipped.
“The projector wasn’t overly pricey but it was the fact somebody would do that. It’s happened to someone else in a different street as well.
“They had their lights cut – it was the same sort of cut as well, like a straight cut. You can tell it’s been snipped.
“I was saying to my husband when we were walking the dog tonight that we might have a look to see if anyone else’s lights are off to see if it’s happened to anyone else. It’s just very strange.
“I’m not really sure whose done it. We have no idea at all. Hopefully whoever did it doesn’t do it again. Why would you want to do that?”
Residents took to a local Facebook page to discuss the vandalism attacks, with several reporting they were victims.
Another resident who lives in the area, who wished to remain anonymous, said it was a disgrace at this time of the year.
They said: “Christmas lights are meant to bring people joy and, instead, we’ve got people cutting them up.
“It’s a nasty thing for them to do. I really hope they find whoever did this. Christmas is meant to be a happy time of year.”
Alyn Smith, MP for the area, said: “I’ll raise this with local police, but hope it’s not widespread.”
The Grinch, a fictional character created by children’s author and cartoonist Dr Seuss, is best known as the main character of the 1957 children’s book How The Grinch Stole Christmas!
The Grinch is depicted as a green, furry, Pot-bellied, pear-shaped, snub-nosed humanoid creature with a cat-like face and cynical personality.
In the book the Grinch disguises himself as Santa before stealing and dumping Christmas gifts and food.
