Almost half a million people travelled to Dundee since the official opening of the V&A Museum in September 2018 – a 14 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
In the first two months, over 200,000 people travelled to the City of Discovery by train, and 443,000 in total passing through the station since the opening of the V&A Museum.
The ScotRail Alliance added more seats to trains to and from Dundee during the opening weekend, which included an additional late-night service.
Dundee station has also had new look facilities installed for customers, which form part of the significant investment to regenerate the city’s waterfront.
Customers now benefit from a refurbished lounge area with a mix of sofas and chairs, softer lighting, bookshelves and a series of images highlighting local attractions and points of historical interest.
The ScotRail Alliance is responsible for the redevelopment of Dundee station on the platform level, with the new station building at street level constructed by Dundee City Council.
The new station includes a ticket office and hotel, as well as new lifts and escalators down to the platform level.
Funding for these improvements has been provided by the Scottish Government’s Scottish Stations Fund.
ScotRail Alliance Regional Customer Operations Manager Fiona Campbell said: “We’re delighted to have played our part in making the V&A a success.
“For a half million people to have travelled to Dundee by train in the last six months shows the impact of the waterfront regeneration project.
“The project has shaped a gateway to the city and is an excellent example of how the industry can work in partnership with public and private sector partners to deliver to wider regeneration goals.”
