MANY parts of Scotland woke up to a covering of snow this morning, and the wintry weather caused delays for commuters throughout the morning.
While snow showers may have slightly subsided, they are set to return later in the afternoon and could cause further disruption for this evening’s rush hour.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for snow and ice for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, warning of heavy, squally showers of snow.
The warning, on top of the current yellow alert, is in place between 3pm today and 8am tomorrow.
Tonight will see the worst of the snow showers, with gale force winds not helping.

Wednesday will see an improvement in the conditions, with showers becoming less heavy and less frequent.
The Met Office also said: “Showers will be accompanied by hail and lightning at times, while strong winds bring the potential for temporary blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow, mainly over high ground.”
The wintry spell is expected to last until the end of the week.
