If you long for your own holiday home in Argyll nestled in the stunning Scottish landscape, Strathlachlan Caravan Park on the shores of Loch Fyne could be just the place you’re looking for.
Less than two hours from Glasgow, this hidden gem currently has luxury caravans available to buy with incredible walks, breathtaking scenery and a Michelin starred restaurant all on the doorstep.
Located on the Maclachlan family estate just south of the picturesque coastal village of Strachur, Strathlachlan Caravan Park is something special.
A private family-owned holiday park
Charlie Maclachlan from the family that both owns and runs the holiday park explained what makes it unique: “We’re a relatively small private caravan park on Loch Fyne, quite off the nearest beaten track, but it’s a beautiful area.
“It’s just a short walk to the loch side and the old castle, and there’s an award-winning restaurant on the estate too.”
The luxury holiday park doesn’t offer rentals, instead all the caravans are owner occupied. Charlie explained how this makes a difference to the holiday home experience at Strathlachlan: “We have a really nice mix of people, it feels like a community rather than a holiday park. From families with young kids through to retirees, everyone gets to know each other.”
With a peaceful family-friendly atmosphere, Charlie told us how less is more: “Some people like to go to caravan parks that have everything – a club house, bar, entertainment – we don’t have any of that. We have a small shop, but that’s the beauty, the stunning location is the main thing.”
Beautiful scenery and fine dining
However, you certainly won’t struggle for impressive dining. Located on the estate is the critically acclaimed Inver restaurant, rated as one of the UK’s top eateries and holder of the only coveted Michelin Green Star in Scotland.
A strong quality over quantity ethos is evident throughout the park, which is designed to cater for everyone in a relaxed and natural way with plenty of open space. A play area in the centre will keep children occupied, while parents can keep watch from the comfort of their caravan.
A perfect location for walkers and their four-legged friends, Charlie says many owners of the holiday homes in Argyll also take full advantage of the loch side location: “There’s plenty of walks all about, and lots of people also have boats on the loch. We have a boat yard where you can keep your boat and there’s a boat club too.”
Being off the beaten track also has the benefits of enjoying dark skies with no light pollution. Along with the incredible celestial displays visible on a clear night, the northern lights can also be seen on occasion given the right conditions.
Heritage and history
A short walk from the holiday park and standing imposingly on the shore of the loch is Old Castle Lachlan, which offers paths to explore, a fascinating history and an array of perfect picnic spots.
Not only that, there is also the lovely Strathlachlan church, a Georgian gem, and Kilmorie Chapel, the resting place of the Maclachlan clan chiefs and one of the few remaining medieval church buildings in the West of Scotland on the estate too.
In such incredible surroundings, whether you decide to spend your time relaxing at your very own holiday home, take a wander down to the loch, or venture further afield to explore some of the best landscape Scotland has to offer, you’ll appreciate just how special Strathlachlan Caravan Park is.
