Joe Biden’s “ally of the light” speech as he accepted the US Democratic presidential nomination has been hailed by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Mr Biden vowed on Thursday that he would move an America in crisis past the chaos and “darkness” of President Donald Trump’s tenure.
Singer and movie star Bette Midler said: “Fantastic speech by Biden. I believe we will survive this era.”
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis said it was the speech of Mr Biden’s life.
She said: “A defining moment. A shift towards decency, honour, faith, strength, compassion and real love.”
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars film series, added: “Vote to defeat the dark side.”
Meanwhile, new US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has said he has no plans to restore mailboxes or address other agency cuts made since he took over in June before the country’s election.
The comments have sparked fresh questions over how the Postal Service will ensure timely delivery of an expected surge of postal ballots for the November poll.
It was Mr DeJoy’s first time publicly answering questions since summer mail delays brought a public outcry.
