Dogs Trust Glasgow seeks rural homes for rescue dogs in their care

A rehoming and rescue charity is on the lookout for people who live in rural areas to give dogs in their care forever homes.

Dogs Trust Glasgow are seeking new owners for a number of canines who require the peace and quiet of countryside living.

They’re hoping to find the perfect matches for some of their older and more shy animals,

Sandra Downie, Glasgow Rehoming Centre Manager, said: “It’s not just humans who want to escape to the country, lots of our fantastic dogs are seeking new homes in rural areas.  At present we have a dozen dogs that have to be rehomed in quiet locations away from neighbouring dogs.

“Our Rehoming Centre in Uddingston is located in quite a built-up area. The majority of people who get in touch with us are looking for a dog that can cope with going to public parks, doggy day care, being around strangers, children and other dogs. For a lot of our dogs this busy life is not for them.  They require regular routines and a much quieter life with minimum interaction with strangers, which includes being exercised in areas that are largely free from other dogs.”

Arthur is just one of a number of four legged friends who are in need of a new home.

An older Jack Russell Terrier, he’s not fond of strangers but could be a loyal companion to the right owner.

“Arthur takes his time to get to know new people, but once the bond is made, his sweet nature shines through,” Downie said.

“It is so important that through our thorough behaviour and veterinary assessments, we match each individual dog to the right person.

“We hope that by appealing for people in rural locations to get in touch, we will find the perfect forever homes for all of our dogs that will greatly benefit from the quiet life.”
