A survey asked which Scottish icon Glasgow International Airport should be named after… And it was a landslide victory for the ‘Big Yin’.
Beloved comedian Billy Connolly was the clear favourite with a huge 58% of the vote. Funnyman and actor Stanley Baxter took second place with 11%, and Sunday Post columnist and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly came third with 8%.
The survey was carried out by Holiday Extras, and Communications Director Ant Clarke Cowell commented: “Whilst we don’t believe that Glasgow Airport will be changing its name anytime soon, we think ‘Glasgow Billy Connolly Airport’ has a great ring to it and we weren’t surprised to see him taking this poll by storm! Billy Connolly has delivered the biggest laughs over the years and we hope this news brings a big smile to his face.”
Other airports in the UK who have been named after local heroes include George Best Belfast City Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.
The survey was completed with 500 Glaswegian residents.
