A nine-month old kitten has lost an eye after being shot with an air gun on Friday.
Vets initially thought the pet, called Milo, had been hit by a car but an X-ray revealed a pellet.
The kitten’s eye was removed but the pellet is still lodged in its skull.
Milo’s owner Kathryn McBride, of Lennoxtown, said: “Unfortunately, he is not fully recovered yet. He had the operation to safely remove his eye, however the bullet is too far lodged into his head for them to have safely removed it at the vet surgery.
“He’s at home but we’re awaiting advice from the vet hospital, who will likely proceed with advanced screening and then a further operation to remove the bullet.”
Ms McBride said: “He was found cowering under a bush 10 steps away from our front door in Calico Way.
“We’d love to be able to catch the disgusting person that has done this.”
In a Facebook post, Martin Veterinary Centre in Kirkintilloch, said: “Who would shoot a defenceless kitten in the eye?
“The incident happened in Lennoxtown so please keep your cats safe.”
Police Scotland appealed to anyone with information to call 101.
