I couldn’t ask for any more with 007 jingle: Ross King on the death of James Bond star Sir Roger Moore

HE was one of the coolest men who ever lived. Well who else could pull off a double-breasted safari suit?

Sir Roger Moore was one of a kind, and one of my heroes – after all, he was James Bond when I was a young man.

His passing at the age of 89 was sad news, but he’s left us with some great memories outside his turns as 007.

The man was a true gent and I met Sir Roger a few times over the years, the first in 1985 when I was at Radio Clyde.

I was sent to interview James Bond for A View To A Kill.

After a hysterical interview I asked Roger if he would do a jingle for me?

“A jingle?” he replied, with a raised eyebrow – as only Roger could.

I explained and he said: “My name is King, Ross King. No, my name is Bond, Ross Bond…no, my name is Bond, James Bond…and he is King, Ross King. No relation to Nosmo King…!”

I’d been a fan of Roger because I’d grown up watching The Saint and The Persuaders.

They say never meet your heroes – but I’m so glad I met him. He was everything I hoped he’d be!

On Monday I was in Las Vegas – and what happened won’t stay in Vegas, for once.

I was at the Billboard Music Awards. It was a glitzy ceremony and Canadian rapper Drake was the big winner, with 13 awards.

But also on song was music legend Cher.

She stole the show by receiving the Icon Award and performing her massive worldwide hit Believe in a VERY revealing dress.

She bravely showed off an awful lot of flesh for someone who is 103 years old!

I’m joking – Cher has actually just turned 71, and she thanked her mammy when the time came to collect her award.

“I’m 71 yesterday,” she said. “So I want to thank my mom.

“When I was really young, my mom said, ‘You’re not going to be the smartest, you’re not going to be the prettiest, you’re not going to be the most talented, but you’re going to be special.”

I think we can all agree Cher’s mum was right about her daughter being quite special.

Daringly, she was dressed in the revealing lingerie-and-leather-jacket outfit she sported in the If I Could Turn Back Time video.

I have to say she looked simply unbelievable.

She’s not changed in years. My only advice to her would to not sit too near a radiator!
