With schools up and down the country set to reopen in August, education experts are quickly drawing up plans to ensure our classrooms are as safe as possible when pupils return – and it seems unlikely that schools will ever return to the way we remember.
As well as moving desks two metres apart and cutting down on class sizes, it was reported this week that some schools may not even allow pupils to bring items from home, including pencil cases, pens, soft toys and even a change of PE kit.
I know it’s for their own safety, but can you imagine having to tell your wee one they can’t take they favourite new toy along to show their friends at playtime?
Or the upset of forgetting to bring their own ball and not being able to join in?
There are a lot of tough choices to be made, but I’m confident our kids will take it in their stride – even if “show and tell” has to be kept for Zoom calls.
