SINGER Marti Pellow says his move into musical theatre gave him the discipline to get his life back on track.
The Wet Wet Wet singer, who at the height of the band’s fame slipped into a life of drinking and drug abuse, says he has been sober for 20 years.
After a spell in rehab, he took up the lead role of Billy Flynn in Chicago, followed by major roles in the Witches of Eastwick and Evita.
“I found I loved the discipline of eight shows a week” he said.
“Picking up a wage packet at the end of the week, going home and knowing I’ve done a good job. I love that feeling, I’m a grafter and always will be.”
Now he lives in Windsor with long-term partner Eileen Catterson, and says: “I’m here for the long haul. I have good days and bad days like everyone else, but I don’t drink or do drugs to look for answers.
“I know I would wake up in the morning with a hangover and the problem would still be there.”
Marti’s The Private Collection tour comes to Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre on June 9, followed over the next two nights by the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
