A DONOR’S organs have given transplant patients an aggressive, lethal cancer, we reveal today.
One patient died within weeks of getting a new liver before kidney doctors told transplant patient Pauline Hunt that she had also contracted the lethal form of cancer.
After the death of the liver patient in Newcastle, surgeons rushed to remove her new kidney, which came from the same donor, but it was too late.
Doctors leading the NHS transplant service insist that all possible checks were done in the time available but Pauline, who married husband Gordon while in hospital, has called for an inquiry to ensure lessons are learned.
Yesterday, Pauline, 49, spoke of her anguish after being given the awful diagnosis.
