A hit Outer Hebrides band have raised more than £9,500 for a children’s charity by playing gigs in fans’ living rooms.
In a fundraiser organised by a regional radio station, Peat & Diesel auctioned off an exclusive performance for up to 40 of the winner’s family and friends.
After a lively bidding war, the private gig sold for £4,605. But the closest losing bidder, pipped by just £5, offered £5,000 if the Western Isles three-piece would play just one more gig – and they agreed.
The group have also played free of charge at Highland Hospice, in schools and at a care home on top of regular tour dates.
The event was arranged by Moray Forth Radio, which broadcasts in the north of Scotland, and the Cash for Kids charity, which supports young people with disabilities or who live in poverty, deprivation or distress.
The Stornoway group features fisherman Boydie MacLeod on guitar and vocals, electrician Innes Scott on accordion and delivery driver Uilly Macleod on drums.
After building a loyal following on social media, the band have played to fans at the Belladrum festival and venues including The Slaughtered Lamb in London and Glasgow’s famed Barrowland Ballroom.
