Roma are ready to test Rangers’ resolve to hang on to Borna Barisic.
The Italian giants are willing to dig deep to get the full-back they need to fulfil their ambitions.
In confirming Roma’s interest in his player from the club’s winter training camp in Dubai, Steven Gerrard insisted the Light Blues were determined to resist all bids for the full-back’s services.
He revealed that the Ibrox club had opened talks with the Croat to extend a deal which still has two-and-a half years to run.
That hasn’t put off the Serie A giants, however.
They are anxious to strengthen their bid to secure a top-four spot – and with it qualification for the Champions League group stages next season – and don’t mind waiting until late in the transfer window.
Also being considered alongside Barisic are Elseid Hysaj of Napoli, recently valued at £40-million, and Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly, who has a price tag of around £12m.
So it’s clear they could have money to burn on Barisic, who cost Rangers just £1.5m when signed from Osijek in August, 2018.
