Here comes Wullie…here, there and everywhere.
The world’s first nationwide public arts trail will launch tomorrow – and, crivvens, it’s bound to be braw.
The 200 life-sized sculptures for Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail are being placed across Scotland this weekend.
And there’s even a Wee Bucket Trail with more than 300 smaller-scale Oor Wullies designed by children and young people across the country.
For more than 80 years Auchenshoogle’s spiky-haired rascal has appeared in your favourite paper, The Sunday Post, and now the iconic cartoon strip favourite has broken out.
The free, mass-participation arts event runs from tomorrow until August 30. The 200 big sculptures have come from the imagination of 100 artists – with a bit of creative input from some top entertainment figures. They’re in place in five cities and and maps will let you follow the trail and track down the sculptures.
There will be 60 in Edinburgh, 58 in Glasgow, 36 each in Dundee and Aberdeen and 10 in Inverness. It’s all been done in partnership with Wild in Art, a leading producer of public arts events.
So, go on, get your walking shoes ready. And watch out for a fabulously fitting finale that will make a huge difference to the lives of young patients.
The sculptures will be auctioned off and the money raised will support the work of Scotland’s children’s hospital charities: Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and the ARCHIE Foundation (Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, Tayside Children’s Hospital and Highland Children’s Unit).
