SPECTACULAR Japanese drummers might have thrilled audiences around the world – but their banging is just too noisy for the capital.
Japan Marvelous Drummers, who use traditional instruments, are appearing during Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe.
But the band is having to turn down the volume when out on the streets promoting their popular theatre show after complaints from other street artists.
“At first we were using our full drum sound but some of the other performers nearby weren’t too happy,” said group drummer Andrij Sonoda.
“Some jugglers and someone from a puppet show approached us and said they loved our act but said we were drowning them out.
“As a compromise, when we are playing on the street we now put plastic practice pads on top of our drums to keep the sound down.”
Fan Jim Byrne, 60, said: “it is ridiculous that they are having to tone it down in the street.”
