ABERDEEN winger Gary Mackay-Steven says he wants to go back to making headlines on the back pages rather than the front after a dramatic river rescue incident last month.
In an exclusive interview with our sister title the Evening Express, the former Celtic and Dundee United star lifted the lid on what happened that night in Glasgow.
He also thanked Dons fans for their support in the aftermath of what he calls ‘a silly night out that got a bit out of hand’.
Mackay-Steven was rescued by firefighters from the River Kelvin in the early hours of Sunday August 27 having headed out after Aberdeen’s 4-3 win over Partick Thistle.
He said: “With being in the water so long I had hypothermia which was a little dangerous at the time, but I was soon back to normal after it.
“I had a night out and some drinks were consumed.
“I jumped over a wall and ended up in the river.
“The river had a few rapids in it so it was some experience.
“It was just a silly night out that got a bit out of hand, nothing more than that.
“It was a freak incident, but I am fine now.”
