MEMBERS of the public have taken to social media express disbelief (and tell the odd joke) after Kellogg’s announced it will stop selling one of their breakfast cereals.
Ricicles will no longer be sold as part of a plan to reduce sugar in the company’s products.
The amount of sugar in the top three selling cereals – Coco Pops, Rice Krispies, and Rice Krispies Multi-Grain Shapes – will also be cut by up to 40%.
The moves are hoped to help combat obesity in the UK and encourage a healthy diet and lifestyle among children.
Ricicles, one of Kellogg’s sweetest cereals, contains 34g of sugar per 100g.
The product, a regular in the popular ‘variety packs’, will cease to be sold from January.
The company will also end on-pack promotions on Frosties aimed at children.
Under the new Coco Pops recipe, to be launched in July 2018, a 30g serving will contain 5.1g of sugar, compared to 9g in the current recipe.
The decision has provoked a mixture of hilarity and disappointment on social media, including from Pointless co-host Richard Osman:
Gutted that Kellogg’s have announced they’re axing Ricicles. How will we know what the worst cereal in a Variety Pack is now?
