A record third hatch of midges has put the bite into the end of summer.
The official Scottish Midge Forecast said that what was once a rare event is now becoming a more regular occurrence due to climate change.
Expert Dr Alison Blackwell said: “It is the largest third hatch and there are plenty of them about. The weather is predicted to stay warm so they will be about a bit longer too.
“But I think that with climate change a third hatch may become a regular feature. People will have to get used to it. What was once a rare occurrence is now more commonplace.
“Midges like it warm and wet – not hot and dry – and that is the kind of weather predicted in the future.”
